Yaocuauhtli Danza Cultural es un calpulli (unidad social) dedicada al enriquecimiento cultural de la comunidad de Salinas a través de la danza Azteca, la música, el canto y la cultura. Desde su fundación en el 2003, Yaocuauhtli se ha dedicado a fortalecer la identidad de la comunidad Mexicana enseñando conocimiento y tradiciones de los antepasados a las nuevas generaciones.
Unas de las metas de Yaocuauhtli son:
- Mantener vivas las tradiciones y enseñanzas que han logrado sobrevivir por mas de 500 años
- Informar a la comunidad sobre sus raíces y sobre el valor de la cultura
- Enseñar los valores de igualdad y el respeto, al igual que la importancia de la familia y la comunidad
- Promover una vida sana entre todos los participantes
- Proveer un ambiente seguro y positive en el que todo el mundo puede venir y aprender sobre nuestra cultura.
Yaocuauhtli Danza Cultual ofrece varios programas y se ofrecen a todos los que están interesados en aprender sobre nuestra cultura, tradiciones y la danza.
Talleres/Clases de Yaocuauhtli
- Danza Azteca – Todos interesados en aprender sobre nuestra cultura, las tradiciones y la danza están invitados a asistir. ENSAYOS: Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA) 745 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas CA Todos los miercoles 6pm – 9:30pm & Boys & Girls Club, 85 Maryal Drive, Salinas CA 93906 Todos los jueves 6:00pm – 8:30pm.
- Arte – Enseñamos danza ancestral Azteca, así como el cuero, perlas, el rock la artesanía de plumas a todos los que están interesados en aprender la artesanía indígena. Las clases se ofrecen de forma periódica.
- Seminarios Culturales –Yaocuauhtli ofrece talleres culturales donde traen a maestros desde la ciudad de México para que faciliten pláticas acerca de la cultura indígena. Las clases se ofrecen de forma periódica.
- Salud/Nutrición/Mentor – Ayudamos a promover una vida sana entre todos los participantes al ofrecer una session de cardio-vascular y bocadillos nutritivos. Nuestro pograma de mentores sirve a todos los miembros de Yaocuauhtli, pero se centra principalmente en la juventud.
- Servicio a la Comunicad- Colaborar con las agencias externas que proporcionan horas de servicio comunitario a los jóvenes que lo requieran para la escuela y o libertad condicional.
Colaboración
A través de nuestra colaboración con diversas organizaciones comunitarias, tales como el National Steinbeck Center, Monterey County Arts Council y Cultural Council of Monterey esperamos animar a nuestros jóvenes a trascender a un mañana mejor, animándoles a participar en programas positivo alternativos que los alejan de la participación en actividades negativas e inseguras.

Yaocuauhtli Cultural Dance is a calpulli (social unit) dedicated to the cultural enrichment of the community of Salinas thru Aztec dance, music, song and culture. Since its founding in 2003, Yaocuauhtli is dedicated in strengthening the identity of the Mexican community by teaching indigenous traditions of their ancestors to future generations.
Some of Yaocuauhtli’s goals are:
- Keep alive the traditions and teachings that have survived for over 500 years
- Inform the community about their roots and the value of culture
- Teach the values of equality and respect, as well as the importance of family and community
- Promote healthy living for all participants
- Provide a safe and positive environment where everyone can come and learn about the indigenous culture
Yaocuauhtli offers several programs and they are offered to all who are interested in learning about our culture, traditions and dance.
Workshops / Classes Yaocuauhtli
- Aztec Dancing – All interested in learning about our culture, traditions and dance are invited to attend. Every Wednesday, Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA) 745 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas CA (6pm – 9:30pm) & Thursday @ Boys & Girls Club, 85 Maryal Drive, Salinas CA (6:30pm – 8:30pm)
- Art – We teach Aztec dance as well as leather, rock, and feathers work to all who are interested in learning the indigenous crafts. Classes are offered periodically.
- Cultural Workshops-Yaocuauhtli offers cultural workshops of which teachers from Mexico City facilitate talks on indigenous culture. Classes are offered periodically.
- Health / Nutrition / Mentor – Helping to promote healthy living among all participants by offering a cardio-vascular workout and nutritious snacks. Our mentoring pograma serves all members of Yaocuauhtli, but focuses primarily on the youth.
- Community Service– We collaborate with external agencies that provide hours of community service to young people who require it for school and/or probation
Collaboration
Through our collaboration with various community organizations such as the National Steinbeck Center, Monterey County Arts Council and Cultural Council of Monterey we hope to encourage the youth to transcend to a better tomorrow by encouraging them to participate in positive alternative programs that will turn them away from participating in negative and unsafe activities.
